I was born in
Indianapolis, IN. My family moved to Dayton, OH in June of
1967. I spent that whole summer on my bike, exploring the
neighborhood and getting to know the other neighborhood
kids. My Mom was after me the whole summer to let her know
where I was at. I had a horrible tendency to NOT let her
know. I got in trouble A LOT that summer! Then, in October,
for my tenth birthday, Mom picked up several tubes of opaque
beads (10 cents each!) at the dime store (F. W. Woolworth's)
in the Miracle Lane shopping center on Salem Avenue, near
our home on Alpena Avenue. Mom gave me thread and needles
from her sewing box.
I would make "love beads" for friends, neighbors, teachers
and family. From then on, I spent many hours beading. There
were no findings back then. You just made the necklace big
enough to slip over the head.
Mom did have ONE rule about my new hobby. I was NOT to take
it out of the house. So, that meant, I got to invite kids
in. Back in those days, not all Mom's stayed at home, mine
did. Mom always liked knowing where I was and who I was
with. There WAS a method to her madness at getting me hooked
on beads! LOL! In 1971 my family moved to Berkley, MI. Each
time we moved, it was because my Dad got a raise and a
promotion.
I have never stopped beading! I would put it away for a
little while, but always returned to it, as it always gave
me such enjoyment! I have long been interested in the
different techniques and styles of the bead-work. Part of
that may be from the possibility my Dad has Blackfoot in his
heritage. Or, just because I like beads! LOL!
I married my husband on 14 Feb 1987 and we bought our house
in Ferndale, MI in June 1993. We live here with our 4 cats,
one dog and 9 rabbits. We just love it here! People are so
nice! :-)
